What is Street Medicine?
Street Medicine includes health and social services delivered directly to the unsheltered homeless in their own environment. The centering principle of Street Medicine is engagement with people experiencing homelessness on their own terms and in their own spaces— outside on the streets, in parks or woods, under bridges—to reduce barriers to care access and follow-through for this marginalized and underserved population.
As a participant in Street Outreach, you will….
- Commit to 4 outreach “shifts” (~3 hours each) over the course of about a month
- Be part of a team from a local community organization made up of street outreach workers, social workers, and occasionally students
- Participate in a 1-hour training on the principles and practice of Street Medicine
- Receive a stipend for each shift
