EM Healthcare Leadership & Administration Fellowship
Learn more about our EMHLA Fellowship!
Education Mission
We have a multipronged educational approach to deliver resident and fellow education in emergency department operations, quality improvement, and patient safety.
We train the next generation of administrative leaders through our Emergency Medicine Administration and Healthcare Leadership (EMHLA) Fellowship and deliver a tailored curriculum to the Emergency Department resident physicians to provide a well-rounded introduction to administration and quality improvement.
The flagship of our education centers around the EMHLA Fellowship. This is a one- or two-year fellowship geared toward individuals pursuing a career as a leader in emergency medicine and healthcare delivery. The two-year fellowship allows for the opportunity to earn a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Brown University’s School of Public Health or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Bryant University. Fellows are integrated into day-to-day ED operations and quality improvement.
Our core faculty delivers a comprehensive curriculum in ED operations and quality improvement to all residents so that by graduation, each resident has a working knowledge of ED administration, operations, billing and coding, and quality improvement. All residents are required to complete a quality improvement initiative under the guidance of our core faculty. We additionally offer a dedicated administration track for interested residents to longitudinally incorporate education and training within operations and quality improvement to position them strongly as future emergency medicine leaders.
Scholarly Mission
Our faculty members are widely published in the literature within emergency department operations, quality improvement, implementation science, patient experience, and patient safety. By bringing together experts from all facets of ED operations and quality improvement, our division serves as a catalyst for innovation to create a pipeline which turns operations and quality improvement project ideas into scholarly output.
