Emergency Medicine Clerkship
Brown welcomes all students interested in a career in Emergency Medicine to participate in its Emergency Medicine Clerkship. Students will rotate primarily at the Anderson Emergency Department at Rhode Island Hospital, and The Miriam Hospital Emergency Department. While working at Rhode Island Hospital, students will have the opportunity to work dedicated shifts in trauma and critical care. If desired, shifts will also be made available in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Hasbro Children's Hospital. This combination of experiences: a regional referral/trauma center, a community hospital, and a dedicated pediatric hospital, will afford students a comprehensive view of the depth and diversity of Emergency Medicine.
During the rotation, students will be held to the performance expectations of an EM intern. They will be the primary provider for their assigned patients and will be expected to develop differential diagnoses while simultaneously recognizing and treating acute changes in clinical status. Students will also deepen their understanding of the field of Emergency Medicine via supplementary educational materials provided throughout the rotation. Students will attend resident didactic sessions, as well as dedicated sessions in the simulation center focused on improving their procedural and clinical skills.
