Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (AIAI)
Leading the future of emergency medicine through responsible AI, innovation, and measurable impact.
About the Division
The Division of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (AIAI), a collaboration between the Brown University Health Department of Emergency Medicine and the Office of the Chief Digital Information Officer, is dedicated to advancing the safe, measurable, and scalable application of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and innovation across emergency medicine and the acute care continuum.
AIAI brings together four core areas: Education, Research, Operations and Administrative Leadership, and Innovation Translation, transforming ideas into real-world solutions through a prototype-to-pilot-to-scale approach. The division also offers a unique AI and Innovation in Emergency Medicine Fellowship that prepares future leaders to design, evaluate, govern, and deploy AI-enabled workflows while advancing education, research, and operational excellence. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, AIAI aims to shape the future of healthcare delivery by driving responsible innovation that improves patient care, clinician experience, and health system performance.
Mission: To advance emergency care through responsible development, evaluation, implementation, and dissemination of AI-enabled innovations that improve patient outcomes, clinician experience, and health system performance.
Vision: To become a national leader in applied AI and innovation for emergency medicine and acute care, delivering measurable operational impact, high-quality scholarship, and a scalable training pipeline of future clinical and operational leaders.

Fellowship Program
The Artificial Intelligence & Innovation in Emergency Medicine Fellowship is a clinically embedded, non-ACGME fellowship designed for Emergency Medicine physicians interested in advancing the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Built within the high-variability, throughput-sensitive, and data-rich environment of Emergency Medicine, the fellowship provides opportunities to apply AI in ways that can create meaningful clinical and operational impact. Through a combination of structured coursework, hands-on projects, operational leadership experience, and scholarly work, fellows develop the skills needed to lead AI-enabled transformation across healthcare organizations.
